Breeder Support Program FAQs

You have questions, we have answers.

The Breeder Support Program allows your buyers to go home with a special Go Home Day Opportunity*. This offer allows your buyers to try out Trupanion so they can get a happy, healthy start in their new home with absolutely no obligation (well they have to let us know their details, so we know who we are covering!). This offer completely waives our waiting periods, so the coverage goes into effect immediately, should pets get into any mischief.

It’s simple! Once you sign on to participate, we’ll email you a PDF of the personalised offer for your new pet owners. From there, it’s up to the new owner to call or go online within 24 hours to activate their complimentary coverage.

The Breeder Support Program is completely free to be a part of—there will never be a cost to you.

Knowing that buyers of your carefully raised litter have the opportunity to activate 30 days free insurance from Trupanion. A dedicated account manager assigned to you. Your account manager will provide a PDF of the Go Home Day Opportunity* and informational materials to include in your puppy/kitten packs. We also periodically offer Trupanion goodies as a thank you.

We are unable to compensate breeders for participating in our program.

You won’t be activating on their behalf. To activate, the owner will provide us their contact information and some basic information about their pet. We don’t ask for any payment information because this coverage is free. They have 30 days to enjoy this premium coverage, and if they want to continue after this cover has expired and keep the significant benefits of no waiting periods they can purchase cover by going online or phoning our friendly team.

Any new accident or illness is eligible for coverage, including hereditary and congenital diseases. Additionally, all pets receive the same coverage regardless of breed — we have no breed restrictions or exclusions.

We don’t cover pre-existing conditions, including those that are already showing signs or symptoms prior to activation. Wellness or preventative care and spay/neuter are also not eligible for coverage. You can learn more about our coverage here.

No. While a lot of breeders have asked for this, it’s not something that our current billing system supports.

The Go Home Day Opportunity* must be activated by the new owner within 24 hours of them picking up their pet. Once activated it provides 30 days free cover, after which it will auto-expire. If they choose to buy a Trupanion policy they keep the benefits of the waived waiting periods and still won’t need to pay until the 30 day free cover has expired.

No. The buyer must be the one who activates their offer from Trupanion. There are three reasons:

  1. It’s illegal for somebody to activate insurance in someone else’s name unless you’re a properly licensed producer/agent.
  2. When a breeder activates, buyers don’t understand what they’re getting and it can result in confusion about coverage resulting in a poor experience for the buyer.
  3. It is the buyer that decides if our coverage suits their needs or not.

No. Because of our 24-hour activation window, you can only provide information about this opportunity with pets as they’re leaving your home — not after they already left. We encourage buyers who have already received their pets to check with their veterinarian to see if they provide our Exam Day Opportunity*.

You do not have to register your litter with us. It is up to your buyers to activate their offer. Let them know to activate the opportunity within 24 hours of getting their new pet.

No. Due to insurance regulations, we’re unable to incentivise breeders based on activations or enrolments.

The monthly premium is specific to each pet and based on a few factors, including age, breed, gender, location, and excess. If you or the new owner would like to get a better idea of what the monthly premium would be, we encourage you to call us at 1300 328 042 or get a quote online.

That’s great news! For your own pets please speak with our team about enrolling on a policy 1300 328 042. Go Home Day Opportunities* are only suitable for your buyers.

We are unable to offer a discount for enrolling multiple pets.

No. At this time, we have no group plan for breeders. Each pet must be enrolled individually.

Unfortunately, our pricing model does not allow us to offer breeder discounts at this time.
